April 2009

Hello all...hope everyone is doing well as Spring is finally upon us and we're enjoying getting outside to play although we could certainly do without all the pollen!!! All is going well in Conner land down here in Georgia! Chris and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary in a few days and can't help but recall (in my biased opinion of course), one of the most fun wedding weekends ever! Man what a party we had...if we could afford it, we'd do it every 5 years but since it wasn't cheap, I'll just have to remember back to that weekend with a huge smile and wonderful memories with many of you that were able to join us! Naturally Chris is shocked he made it 5 years with me (should we remind him it's really be 18 years including the very long 13 year courtship)...I'm shocked he's surviving with 3 women in the house...it's not easy as you can imagine...unfortunately for him, Riley is "mini-Niki"....she looks like me, talks like me, she can be a bit bossy with her daddy which I hate to admit is just like me! Somehow he manages...thankfully Hunter adores him too and she's got his personality so for now, we're finding some balance!

Riley continues to grow up too fast...she'll be 4 in August but she has the attitude of a teenager these days. One of the frustrating thing I deal with as her mother is the "selective hearing" thing...didn't learn about this in parenting 101...wouldn't it be great if I were a patient person and could tolerate this phenomenon, but it doesn't generally go over very well with me! Thankfully friends here who have children that are roughly 8-10 say this "selective hearing" thing goes away at least around age 5 and doesn't seem to rear it's ugly head again until the teenage years so I'm optimistic her hearing will improve soon...funny how though when I mention she will need to go see a doctor since she can't hear and doesn't listen, this odd "disease" mysteriously disappears for awhile! She continues to excel in school and we're looking forward to Pre-K next fall. She has decided to drop tennis (much to my chagrin) and take up basketball at school and she's continuing with soccer...either way, still aiming for a UNC scholarship of some nature ... no pressure dear!

Hunter is growing as well...she's 11 months old tomorrow and she is "on the move" constantly! She is into EVERYTHING and everything goes in the mouth so unlike with Riley who couldn't care less about things around the house, we really have to watch her. Her daddy taught her how to climb the stairs so this is new game for her...race to the stairs...start up them and see who comes to rescue her. Unfortunately, he failed to teach her how to come back down so for now, we're all getting our exercise going up and down...up and down! Good news is it wears her out so she sleeps great after several climbs! She's also doing great at school and holding her own against a few boys her age who want to take away her ball occasionally. You will notice that in basically every picture we have, she is holding either a soccer ball or basketball...these are her security blanket for now...again...aiming for that scholarship! She will move up to the 1 year old class at the end of May. She's not yet walking but will be soon enough...she's easily running around the furniture and has no fear of letting go even if it means a few bruises so expect by her first birthday, she'll be walking on her own then WATCH OUT!

Hope everyone is doing well and we miss all of you...let us hear from you soon!
